No better time to pretend play with honeybees than springtime! The weather is heating up and bees are waking up for their start of pollination season.
This sensory table is so much fun-- last year I used black rice and also black beans (two separate tables). The kids loved this not only to pretend with the little honeybees, but also to practice skills like counting and sorting! This pack of honeybees has "big" bees and "small" bees. We also used our Montessori counter trays for number identification and quantity practice. My 2 year old used the icecube tray as a pretend honeycomb and used tongs and pincers to pick up each bee and place into the icecube spaces! Lots of fine motor practice disguised as play!! 🐝 NOTE: many uncooked beans are poisonous to consume. Use with caution!
This year, with the addition of our Tuff Tray, we used yellow/orange homemade playdough and bee stampers, along with felt bees and honeycombs, wooden bee puzzles, and silk flowers!
I also held a sensory play event and used these same accessories with black pasta circles and yellow/orange rice & a homemade bee hive!
Kids of all ages and with all experiences each year had so much fun and engagement from our BEE play!! 🍯
