The EASIEST… SIMPLEST… sensory learning activity ever. I say sensory, because this involves so many senses to work as a team here!
There are two jobs in this set up, but don’t let that stop you from adding more! The “forklift” starts by pushing a pan or container of pom-poms across a good amount of floor space to the “distributor”. The “forklift“ listens for the “distributor” directions: a specific color and number. The “forklift” then picks out the color and quantity of pom-poms and gives them to the “distributor”. The “distributor” takes the pom-poms, pinches each one individually with their thumb and pointer finger to send them down the color-coordinated pipe into a cup. Pompoms must land in the cup!
So many great skills practiced with such simple materials. My kids also got a quick vocabulary lesson on what it means to manufacture, distribute and change careers!
SENSORY SKILLS:
🏗️ The “forklift” uses gross motor TOUCH by pushing the pompom pan across different surfaces. (Add weight for heavier work)!
🏗️ The “forklift” uses LISTENING to determine which color and quantity of PomPom to distribute.
🏗️ The “distributor” uses SEEING to recount PomPoms.
🏗️ The “distributor” uses SEEING and TOUCH together to line up the tubes to the cups underneath and accurately drop the PomPoms through with a pinch!
The best part about this is that it is simple and jobs can be switched so that everyone gets a lot of “bang for their buck” in the learning and sensory skills realm.
